Revitalizing Suzhou's Taihu Lake Area with Award-Winning Architecture

The project draws inspiration from the serene beauty of Taihu Lake, a place that has long been a source of inspiration for dreamers. The lake's calm waters and picturesque mountains provide a tranquil setting for the project, which aims to create a livable zone that captures the essence of leisurely life.

Shanghai Banfen Space Design Co. Ltd. has used the concept of "mountains and waters" as the guiding principle for the design. The project is characterized by a white tone as the basic color, a blue lake-like color as the jump color, and dark-tone metal lines as outline. The design incorporates water waveforms as the main shape, from the ceiling to the ground and walls, combined with arc and wave shapes to capture the soft beauty of water.

The project features a two-storey open sand table area at its center, with a transparent and flowing rhythm. The wall is designed to mimic a waterfall, with lights cascading down like fishing boats singing late into the night. The negotiation area features a water pattern image carpet, which adds a dynamic element to the space and enlivens the pleasant atmosphere.

The design team, led by Zhang Zhengguang and Chen Jia, faced numerous challenges during the project. They had to create a romantic scene with a combination of flower borders and landscapes, and create a warm atmosphere with flower mirrors. The team also had to navigate the dense forest with flowers to reach the model house.

The project, which began in August 2018 and ended in November 2018, was conducted in Suzhou. The design team conducted extensive research to ensure that the project was not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional. They used the water surface as a mirror to set off the elevation image of the building, and used sculpture and planting as elements to form the interest of water through decoration.

The Merchants Great Lakes Century project is a shining example of how innovative design can transform a location.
